Regulations and the US Department of State

Regulations and the U.S. Department of State are nearly synonymous as this department is in charge of many regulations.

The Rules You Need

While you might never need to think about defense trade controls, others do. (Yes, you knew your neighbors were like that.) These controls are put into place in order to protect those who aren’t actually using them, which sounds odd, but it works. You don’t see people toting around AK47s, not do you? Well, if you do, then it’s time to move to a new neighborhood.

The defense trade controls relate to the exportation of defensive equipment and resources (i.e. fighting men and women). These controls will help to control anything that’s going to be harmful or that has the possibility of being harmful.

Right, so do these defense controls apply to you?

Talk to the State Department if…

  • Your defensive equipment is not included in the USML (United States Munitions List).
  • You’re not already registered with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.
  • You need to apply for an export license

What do defense trade controls mean for most exporters and defensive contractors? Paperwork, background checks, and more paperwork. Chances are pretty good that if you’re a legitimate company, you have nothing to worry about. Not even those parking tickets.

Creating New Policies

Between the State Department and the Department of Defense, most rules and policies are being analyzed and reviewed and then given the proper military spending to ensure public safety, both home and abroad. These policies will help to make the United States seem like the friendly country it wants to be, even if we do end up going to war from time to time. It happens. With the right controls in place, at least we’re doing all that we can on our end to stop defensive moves from looking like aggression. Hopefully others will follow this lead.
