Military Spending and the US Department of State
Military spending the U.S. Department of State budget might not always see eye to eye, but you can’t be cheap with it comes to national security.
How Much Money is Needed?
When it comes to begging for money in the government, it seems pretty simple. If you want more money, just ask. And if they say no, you’ll get it anyway. After all, you can just borrow from the zillion dollar deficit. So, really, how much money is needed? This depends on several fighting factors:
- Cost of military personnel
- Cost of big guns
- Costs of other military gizmos, gadgets, and gear
The price is probably going to be somewhere in the billions of dollars when all is said and done in the Iraq War – and that doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. The costs of the military rise exponentially as not only do the current soldiers need to be outfitted and paid, but so do the one who are training to take other soldiers’ places.
Financial Troubles in Paradise?
While defense trade controls can help to watch the exportation of military goods, this doesn’t really help the costs of fighting wars or of fighting terrorism. All this does is seem to make the importance of spending a lot of money more important. Now that’s circular logic – perfect for all things related to the government. The truth is that someone is always going to point out the budget crisis that’s taking place (there’s always something like that happening) and they’re going to whine about military spending. Someone else is going to tell them that they’re not considering the children or the safety of the country. Then the other side will moan, and the other side will complain and the President will look at his approval rating and then make a decision.
The Military Money Protest
Sometimes those crazy hippies aren’t just protesting about the war, but also about the money that’s being spent on defense. Though it might seem reasonable to those fighting, that money is coming from somewhere, and that somewhere is education, the environment, and other warm fuzzy places. And that’s why protesters protest. Fair? Maybe not to some. But when you look at the amount of money being spent to fight wars, it does seem a bit outrageous, especially since they continue to be necessary.
