Current Defense Trade Control Issues
The current defense trade control issues are the same as they always are: maintaining order, preventing terrorist attacks, and keeping citizens safe.
Maintaining Order in the World
Keeping the peace is serious business, no matter what you might think of war. Though fighting is fun and guns are cool, keeping the countries from fighting is actually the main concern of the defense trade controls. When the weapons which are exported and used are not used to agitate anyone, then the United States can maintain order amongst its citizens. Though this might not see like too hard of a task, especially given the power and the might of the U.S. military, things can go wrong quickly when signals are misread.
Terrorism Concerns
Terrorism is another big concern is the world as technology becomes more advanced and people begin to see that the attacks can hit close to home. With defense trade controls in place, one can be sure that defensive services can be used, without causing a scene. Sometimes defense contractors need to be sent out to certain places, and not for wartime ideals. They just want to rebuild, but the terrorist might not see it that way. In addition, if weapons are exported and then used by terrorists, that’s going to cause some problems and it’s going to make other countries look at the U.S. in a completely different way.
Keeping Citizens Safe
The overall goal of anything sort of military measure is to keep the people safe and secure. So, while you might think that rules are too harsh, they are in place for your own good, says Momma or Poppa United States. Would you rather follow the rules or be grounded as a result of breaking them?
